Turkey Denies Deployment of Military Radar in Syria
A statement from the Turkish Presidency’s Directorate of Communications said: “The allegations that a radar system has been installed by Turkey at Damascus International Airport for military purposes are completely false.”
According to the statement, the radar system installed at Damascus Airport is an air traffic control radar deployed solely for non-military purposes and at the request of Syrian authorities. The purpose of launching this system was stated to be improving airspace surveillance and ensuring flight safety.
The statement further emphasized that the circulation of such news consists of speculation aimed at weakening Turkey’s relations with friendly, brotherly, and neighboring countries, and Syrian officials were asked to disregard these claims.
This reaction came following a report by an Israeli television channel on Wednesday, which had claimed that Turkey deployed an advanced military radar at Damascus Airport.
