Grok Blocked in Turkey
A court in Turkey has blocked access to Grok, Elon Musk’s AI chatbot, after its generated responses were deemed by authorities to constitute insults toward President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.
The Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office in Ankara, Turkey’s capital, has launched an official investigation into the incident. This marks the first time access to an AI chatbot has been banned in Turkey. So far, neither X (formerly Twitter) nor its owner, Elon Musk, has commented on the decision.
The AI chatbot Grok, developed by Musk’s xAI and integrated into the X platform, reportedly produced offensive content about Erdoğan when asked certain questions in Turkish.
Turkey’s Information and Communication Technologies Authority (BTK) enforced the ban following the court order, citing violations of Turkish law, which criminalizes insulting the president and carries a penalty of up to four years in prison.
