Turkey ship targeted by drone in the Black Sea
Following a drone attack on a Turkish commercial ship in Black Sea waters, two sailors died and 11 other crew members were rescued.
The incident occurred on Monday, October 5, near the Pescăruș oil platform in Romanian waters. The cargo ship “Royad Mammadov,” sailing under the flag of Saint Kitts and Nevis, caught fire severely and sank hours later.
The ship, said to belong to a Turkish company, was traveling from the Ukrainian port of Izmail to the port of Ravenna in Italy, and its cargo was declared to be grain.
Romanian authorities announced that following the incident, 11 crew members were rescued and two other sailors lost their lives. The rescue operation was carried out with the participation of the Coast Guard, rescue vessels, and air rescue helicopters.
Romanian media reported that the ship is believed to have been hit by two or three drones before the fire broke out. However, Romanian authorities have not yet released official details about the exact cause of the incident.
