Erdogan Welcomes Iran-Israel Ceasefire Agreement

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan welcomed the ceasefire agreement between Iran and Israel in remarks to journalists at Ankara Esenboğa Airport before departing for the Netherlands to attend the NATO summit. He called on both parties to adhere to the ceasefire and emphasized the need to halt Israel’s aggressive actions in the region.

Referring to the recent clashes between Iran and Israel, Erdogan stated that Türkiye remains committed to its principled stance of respecting international law and prioritizing diplomacy. He warned that the Middle East cannot bear the burden of a war with global consequences, stressing that giving diplomacy a chance is the right solution.

The Turkish president described Israel’s actions in Palestine, Lebanon, Syria, Yemen, and Iran as unacceptable and called for a complete halt to these operations across the region. He also underscored the necessity of establishing a permanent ceasefire in Gaza, ending Israeli attacks, and reopening humanitarian aid routes.

Erdogan urged the international community to take necessary steps to end tensions, warning that otherwise, the consequences would affect the entire world.

In another part of his remarks, he addressed the presence of terrorist groups in Syria, stating that the country’s government is determined to fight terrorism, including ISIS, and that Türkiye supports these efforts.

The Turkish president also highlighted Türkiye’s role in NATO, reaffirming Ankara’s support for the fair sharing of responsibilities and the strengthening of European security.
