Turkeys Deep Concern over Israels Influence in Cyprus
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Turkey, in a statement expressing deep concern over the recent activities of the Israeli regime in the island of Cyprus, has assessed these actions as a clear example of a threat against Turkey’s national security and the stability of the Eastern Mediterranean region.
The Israeli regime, exploiting the old tactic of purchasing property in both the northern and southern parts of Cyprus, seeks strategic and long-term influence on the island. Furthermore, the signing of defense and security agreements between Israel, the Greek Cypriot administration, and Greece has been described from Ankara’s perspective as a dangerous act contrary to international norms.
Hakan Fidan, Turkey’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, recently pointed to these agreements at the Antalya Diplomatic Forum and emphasized: “This tripartite coalition is an obvious attempt to endanger Turkey’s national security.” He added that the actions of Benjamin Netanyahu in Cyprus and the Eastern Mediterranean have worried not only Turkey but also many Islamic countries.
Turkey’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs also announced that since the year 2000, individuals close to Mossad, following a long-term strategy, have been purchasing extensive properties in Cyprus. According to this report, at least 20,000 Jews, disguised as entrepreneurs, businessmen, or retirees, have entered the island, some of whom are linked to Mossad.
On the other hand, Turkey warned against the deployment of advanced American and Israeli weapons in the southern part of Cyprus, as well as the activities of the British military base on the island. Ankara emphasized that this base has become one of the important centers for supplying intelligence and ammunition to the Israeli regime.
In conclusion, Turkey’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs noted in its statement: “The island of Cyprus has now turned into a strategic rear base for hostile actions against Turkey, as well as a potential threat against Iran in the event of a conflict in the region. Ankara will not refrain from any diplomatic or legal action to protect its national security.”
