Use of artificial intelligence doubled in Türkiye
A report by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK) shows that the use of artificial intelligence among citizens and economic enterprises in the country nearly doubled over one year; however, experts say this growth has not yet had a dramatic impact on the scientific, educational, and industrial fields.
The use of generative artificial intelligence among Turkish citizens rose from 19.2% in 2025 to 37.6% in 2026—a growth of nearly 96%. In economic enterprises, this figure also increased from 7.5% to 14%. Nevertheless, personal use of artificial intelligence has spread faster than its penetration into production and business structures.
The TÜİK report also points to a significant generational and educational gap; 65% of people aged 16–24 are AI users, but this rate is only 5% in the 65–74 age group. By education, AI use was reported at 63% among those with higher education and 9% among those with primary education.
In terms of gender, AI use is 38.1% among women and 37.2% among men, with no significant difference observed. Also, 86.4% of users use AI for personal and daily matters, 37.3% for work-related activities, and 32.6% for formal education.
In the companies section, enterprise size is an important factor; the usage level is 13% in companies with 10–49 employees, 17% in companies with 50–249 employees, and 37% in companies with 250 or more employees. Leading industries are telecommunications, programming, and information technology at 64%; media and content production at 57%; and repair of computers and communication equipment at 33%.
Company managers identified the most important barriers to AI use as lack of relevant expertise (72%), uncertainty about legal consequences and liability (66%), concerns about data protection and privacy (66%), incompatibility of equipment and systems (65%), high cost (65%), lack or poor quality of data (57%), and ethical considerations (48%).
