Turkey condemned Colombias decision to move its embassy to Jerusalem
Turkey’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement condemning the Colombian government’s decision to move its embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem and called on Bogotá to reconsider the move.
The statement said Colombia’s decision contradicts United Nations resolutions, particularly Security Council resolutions 476 and 478 adopted in 1980, and the legal principles emphasized by the International Court of Justice.
Stressing that East Jerusalem is an inseparable part of the occupied Palestinian territories, Turkey’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs called on all countries to refrain from actions that undermine the historical and legal status of Jerusalem.
The ministry also reiterated that establishing an independent and sovereign Palestinian state based on the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital, is the only way to achieve a just, lasting and comprehensive peace in the region.
