Iranian Embassy’s Reaction to Anti-Iranian Statement in Baku
The Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Baku responded on Wednesday, 22 Mehr, by issuing a statement to the statement of the National Association of Non-Governmental Organizations of the Republic of Azerbaijan. The Iranian Embassy called the claims and accusations raised baseless and expressed surprise at attempts to link Iran to current issues related to hijab/dress code in schools.
Earlier, the National Association of Non-Governmental Organizations of the Republic of Azerbaijan, on Sunday and after the issuance of dress code guidelines in the country’s schools, had called on society in a statement to be vigilant against foreign influences. The statement said that some internet and media sources in Iran and several other countries are trying to target Azerbaijan’s secular model of governance and education system. The body described that action as an attempt to create religious and social division in Azerbaijan and supported the uniform and legal implementation of dress code rules in schools.
The Iranian Embassy also reacted in a press statement to the claims made in the APA news agency report about Iran. In this statement, addressed to Vusala Mahirgizi, head of APA news agency, referring to an article titled “Behind the scenes of ideological provocations against Azerbaijan: How did the school dress code issue become a tool of interference?” dated October 13, 2026, regret was expressed over the publication of invalid content and baseless, provocative, and biased claims.
The Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran stated in the statement that Iran’s principled policy is based on mutual respect, good neighborliness, and respect for the national sovereignty of other countries, and it called attributing any gathering, protest, or dissatisfaction of Republic of Azerbaijan citizens to Iran a baseless and truthless claim.
The embassy also described the publication of false news and attempts to create a fabricated link between current developments and Iran as serving the interests of the enemies of the two countries and Muslims, and called it a cause of division and discord among Muslims, weakening of Islamic countries, and unnecessary misunderstandings in bilateral relations.
In the end, the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Baku, emphasizing the need to develop friendly, brotherly relations based on mutual respect between the two countries, called for avoiding baseless claims and accusations and the creation of unnecessary tensions in relations between the two countries.
