Erdoğan: Iran’s internal issues must be resolved without foreign interference.
In response to questions from the American magazine Newsweek, the President of Turkey stated that Iran’s internal affairs should be settled by the Iranian people and free from foreign interference.
Referring to the monitoring of PKK/PJAK movements to exploit the situation in Iran, Erdoğan warned that activating ethnic and sectarian fault lines would drag Iran and the region into long-term instability.
He also made clear that the Mecca joint defense agreement among Turkey, Pakistan, and Saudi Arabia is not against Iran, Israel, or any third country, but rather expresses a shared responsibility for a safer future.
Emphasizing the importance of diplomacy in the tension between the US and Iran, the Turkish President said that in his meeting with Donald Trump, he stressed the need to make maximum use of diplomacy, and that Ankara’s communication channels with Tehran are also open.
He added that tension in the Strait of Hormuz directly affects energy supply and global trade, and that Turkey’s priority is to reduce tension and return the parties to the negotiating table.
