Justice and Development Party’s Response to Netanyahu’s Statements
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, in remarks concerning the status of Jerusalem, described the city as “the indivisible capital of Israel” and, addressing the President of Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, said: “Jerusalem is our city, not yours.” He also stressed that during his tenure he would never allow the establishment of a Palestinian state.
These statements drew a reaction from Ankara. Ömer Çelik, Deputy Chairman and Spokesperson of Turkey’s Justice and Development Party, declared in a message on the national social media platform “NSosyal”: “The words of Netanyahu, who targeted our President, are null and void.” He added: “Netanyahu’s claims about Jerusalem, which is regarded as a common value of humanity, reveal an approach that is incompatible with human values.”
Çelik further stated that the international community is under threat in the face of such an approach, and that the response must be shaped on the basis of human unity.
