Ankara’s Reaction to Rumors of Intervention in Iran: Misleading
Senior Turkish officials, in two separate statements from the Presidency and the Ministry of National Defence, have strongly denied reports about the country’s plans for military intervention inside Iranian territory, describing them as “misleading information.”
The Directorate of Communications of the Turkish Presidency issued a statement “denying” allegations in some media outlets that Ankara intends to occupy parts of Iranian territory under the pretext of security concerns in the event of a possible US attack on Iran.
The statement emphasized: “Our country, which has always respected the territorial integrity and sovereignty of neighboring countries, takes the necessary measures around the clock to ensure the security of its borders.” The Directorate of Communications also called on the public to rely on statements from official bodies rather than trusting “unconfirmed claims.”
Meanwhile, the Turkish Ministry of National Defence, following its weekly press briefing, labeled the rumors circulating on social media and in some press outlets about the possible entry of the Turkish army into Iranian territory as “unfounded” and “false.”
Reaffirming Ankara’s commitment to “peaceful solutions and regional stability,” the Ministry of National Defence stated: “The allegations that, in the event of a US attack on Iran, Turkey also intends to enter Iranian territory for security reasons are not true.” The Ministry concluded by noting that necessary measures against any potential threats will be taken in coordination with relevant institutions.
