Erdoğan’s Message on the 80th Anniversary of the United Nations
Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, President of Turkey, issued a message on the occasion of October 24, United Nations Day, marking the 80th anniversary of the founding of the organization, and extended his congratulations.
In his message, Erdoğan emphasized: “In today’s world, where we are simultaneously confronted with threats such as wars, humanitarian crises, hunger, poverty, Islamophobia, terrorism, and climate change, the historic responsibility of the United Nations has become more significant than ever.”
Criticizing the performance of the United Nations Security Council regarding developments in Gaza, Erdoğan stated: “The Security Council failed the test in the face of the genocide in Gaza, where international law and the most fundamental human values were violated. In this tragedy, 70,000 Palestinians, including more than 20,000 children, lost their lives, 170,000 people were injured, and Gaza was reduced to rubble. The Security Council failed not only to ensure the safety of innocent civilians in Gaza but also to protect United Nations personnel.”
The President of Turkey further noted: “Our goal is to transform Istanbul — a city that unites civilizations and continents — into one of the centers of the United Nations, with its qualified human resources and advantages such as efficiency, affordability, and accessibility. As Turkey, we will continue our efforts to achieve peace, tranquility, and security across the world, starting from our own region.”
