Fidan and Sisi’s Meeting in Cairo; Turkey and Egypt Agree on Opposing Occupation of Gaza
Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, during meetings with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi and his Egyptian counterpart Badr Abdelatty in Cairo, emphasized the two countries’ cooperation regarding the Gaza and Syria crises.
Condemnation of Gaza Occupation Plan:
Fidan stated at a joint press conference with Abdelatty:
“We categorically reject Israel’s intention to fully occupy Gaza; this plan represents a new phase of Israel’s expansionist and genocidal policies.”
He added:
“Turkey and Egypt will stand against such scenarios.”
Common Stance on Palestine and Gaza:
Abdelatty described the humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza as the focus of talks, calling for “halting the genocide and ensuring the entry of humanitarian aid.”
Both countries reaffirmed support for Palestinians’ rights and the establishment of an independent Palestinian state along the 1967 borders.
Fidan warned: “Israel’s goal is to de-Palestinize Gaza through starvation policies and forced displacement.”
Coordination in International Organizations:
Fidan announced Turkey’s decision, as term president of the OIC Council of Foreign Ministers, to convene an emergency session against Israel’s policies. Abdelatty confirmed joint meetings at the OIC (Organization of Islamic Cooperation) and Arab League.
Syria and Humanitarian Aid:
The two countries agreed on Syria’s territorial integrity and the need for a political solution “without exceptions.”
Fidan expressed gratitude for Turkey’s delivery of 102,000 tons of humanitarian aid to Gaza via Egypt.
Warning on Israeli Expansionism:
The foreign ministers labeled Israel’s expansionism in Lebanon and other regional countries a “serious threat,” urging international mobilization. Fidan stressed:
“No effort to displace Palestinians from their land will succeed.”
