The meeting between Iran and members of the Mecca Defense Alliance will be held in Tehran
A joint meeting of senior military and security officials from Iran, Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, and Turkey will be held in Tehran on Monday, 26 October 2026. This is the first meeting of its kind within the framework of security cooperation among the four countries.
According to the Deputy Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council of Iran, Amir Khalid bin Salman, the Defense Minister of Saudi Arabia; General Asim Munir, the Chief of Army Staff of Pakistan; and Ibrahim Kalin, the Head of the Turkish Intelligence Agency, will attend the meeting representing their countries. The proposal to hold this meeting was first raised during the visit of the Pakistani Army Chief to Iran, and Iranian officials welcomed it.
Esmail Baghaei, the Spokesman of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Iran, said at a press conference on Monday: “The hosting of senior military and security officials from Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, and Turkey by Tehran is a key event on the path to strengthening regional diplomacy.” According to him, this meeting is a practical step for consultation and cooperation on regional security mechanisms based on the common interests of the four countries.
Baghaei, emphasizing the security approach of Iran, said: “The continuous emphasis of the Islamic Republic of Iran on endogenous security shows the reality that sustainable stability and security in the Middle East can be achieved only by relying on the capacities, will, and security considerations of the countries of the region.” He considered this meeting a prelude to further actions aimed at strengthening self reliant regional security and said that the developments of the past two years, especially the recent developments, showed that sustainable and reliable security in the region can be achieved only through confidence building and cooperation among the countries of the region.
The Spokesman of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Iran added that in the meetings of the senior officials of Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, and Turkey with the President of Iran and the Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council of Iran, the most important regional security issues will be reviewed. According to him, the main axes of the talks include the expansionism of Israel and the developments in the Palestinian territories and southern Lebanon. Baghaei also, referring to the military aggression of the United States of America against Iran, said that holding such a meeting without considering its consequences for the security of the entire region is not possible, and this issue is also on the agenda of the negotiations.
Some observers assess this meeting as the first practical step for the implementation of the idea of self reliant regional security in the Middle East and the reduction of the security dependence of the countries of the region on extra regional powers. More details and the results of the meeting are expected to be announced by official Iranian authorities at the end of the negotiations.
