Fidan: Israel is Trying to Sabotage the Ceasefire Process
Hakan Fidan, while supporting the peaceful reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, warned that an armed intervention would face serious challenges.
He added, “We are witnessing that Israel may, after Iran, seek to portray Turkey as a new enemy, as Israel cannot exist without an enemy. Iran and the United States are sincere about the ceasefire, but Israel is trying to disrupt this process.”
The Turkish Foreign Minister said, “Turkey supports the peaceful reopening of the Strait of Hormuz. An international armed intervention will face serious challenges and worsen the situation. The world wants free and uninterrupted shipping through the Strait of Hormuz.”
He recalled that Israel’s actions in Lebanon are similar to those in Gaza, and that this regime is trying to reduce the population of southern Lebanon by destroying homes and infrastructure.
Fidan said that Israel’s attacks in Syria have created a large security risk zone in the region and pose serious dangers to Turkey. Noting that Israel is refraining from certain specific actions in Syria due to the Iran war, he warned that Tel Aviv may take action if conditions are right.
The Turkish Foreign Minister, in continuing his remarks, called for countries in the Middle East to commit to the territorial integrity, sovereignty, and security of each other under a regional security pact.
