Istanbul Exports $923 Million to 166 Countries
The Istanbul Exporters’ Union announced in an official statement that in the first month of this year (January), it successfully exported $923.5 million worth of goods to 166 different countries around the world. This figure represents a 5.2 percent share of Turkey’s total exports in the first month of the year.
According to data published by the Union, in January, the United Kingdom topped the list of export destinations, purchasing $96 million worth of goods from Istanbul. The main export items to this country included ships and paper and cardboard products.
Following the United Kingdom, Germany with $76 million, Iraq with $70 million, the United Arab Emirates with $48 million, and the United States of America with $38 million were the largest buyers of goods exported from Istanbul, respectively.
The report from the Istanbul Exporters’ Union indicates that the composition of exported goods varied depending on the target country. For instance, exports to Germany mainly consisted of hazelnuts and their products, as well as wood and forestry products. In contrast, the main goods exported to Iraq were fisheries and livestock products, along with wood and forestry products.
The Istanbul Union also primarily exported wood and forestry products, as well as fisheries and livestock products, to the United Arab Emirates. Exports to the United States of America were centered around sugar and sugar confectionery, as well as paper and cardboard products.
