Meeting of the Head of Iran’s Department of Environment with the Vice President of Turkey
On the sidelines of the 30th session of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP30) in Brazil, the Vice President of Iran and Head of the Department of Environment met with Cevdet Yılmaz, Vice President of Turkey.
According to the Public Relations Office of the Department of Environment, Yılmaz expressed satisfaction with the participation of Shina Ansari in the “Zero Waste” summit in Turkey and her meeting with Mrs. Emine Erdoğan, emphasizing the importance of expanding environmental cooperation between the two neighboring countries, Iran and Turkey.
Referring to common environmental challenges, he described the development of such cooperation as complementary to the longstanding historical, political, and cultural relations between the two nations.
Yılmaz also recalled Turkey’s candidacy to host COP31 and its competition with Australia, requesting the support of the Islamic Republic of Iran for Turkey’s bid.
Subsequently, both sides reviewed previous agreements reached during meetings between the Head of Iran’s Department of Environment and Turkey’s Minister of Environment and Climate Change as well as the Minister of Forestry and Agriculture, stressing the need to strengthen bilateral cooperation in the environmental field and considering such collaboration an effective factor in improving the region’s environmental situation.
Ansari, while expressing gratitude for the support of the Turkish government and people during the recent aggressions of the Zionist regime, reaffirmed the Islamic Republic of Iran’s determination to expand environmental cooperation with Turkey.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the two parties agreed that the High Committee for Iran–Turkey Environmental Cooperation should begin its activities as soon as possible and that the implementation of previous agreements should be pursued with greater speed.
