Palestinian Representative: Erdoğan Played an Important Role in the Gaza Ceasefire Agreement
Mohammad Shtayyeh, the Special Representative of the President of the State of Palestine and former Prime Minister, emphasized in an exclusive interview in Geneva that Turkey, due to its special relations with Palestine, the United States, and regional countries, is a unique actor in the international arena, and that President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan played an important and positive role in achieving the Gaza ceasefire agreement.
Referring to the significance of this agreement and the Sharm el-Sheikh Peace Summit declaration, he said: “The ceasefire in Gaza is a very important step in the right direction. The international leaders present at the summit acted as guarantors of this agreement, since no one trusts Israel. That is why we needed international guarantees, and fortunately these guarantees were provided. We hope this agreement will be fully implemented, including the complete withdrawal of the Israeli army from the Gaza Strip.”
Shtayyeh also expressed hope that the same countries and actors who gathered in Sharm el-Sheikh would convene again, not only to end the occupation of Palestinian territories but also to address issues related to Jerusalem and the West Bank.
He concluded by once again underlining Turkey’s prominent role in regional developments, stating: “Turkey, thanks to its unique relations with various parties, holds a special position, and President Erdoğan played a key and constructive role in the Gaza ceasefire process.”
