Turkey Grants Preliminary Approval for Iran to Open Consulate in Van
Vahid Jalalzadeh, Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister for Consular, Parliamentary, and Iranian Expatriates Affairs, announced that the Turkish government has given preliminary approval to Iran’s request to open a new consulate in the city of Van.
Jalalzadeh stated, “Iran’s initial request to open a consulate in Van, Turkey, has been submitted.” He emphasized that this request was made “based on a decision by the government of the Islamic Republic of Iran,” and it has been agreed that the Iranian consulate will be established in Van.
Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister for Consular Affairs added, “The Turkish government has expressed its preliminary approval regarding the opening of an Iranian consulate in Van.”
Jalalzadeh also hinted at a possible reciprocal proposal from Turkey, saying, “Turkey will likely propose opening a consulate in Iran, and we are awaiting the other side’s proposals.”
This preliminary approval from Turkey came in response to Iran’s official request and in accordance with the Iranian government’s decision. The city of Van is located in eastern Turkey.
