Turkish and Russian Foreign Ministers Emphasize Cooperation in Regional Crises
Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan and his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov discussed various regional and international issues, including the situation in Syria, the Ukraine war, and the Gaza crisis, during a meeting in Moscow. The talks were held within the framework of close bilateral relations and coordination between the two countries.
In his remarks, Fidan stated that Turkey and Russia would work to preserve Syria’s territorial integrity and unity. Referring to recent developments, he noted that progress had been observed in Syria’s political stability and economic security over the past five months. The Turkish Foreign Minister also addressed the Gaza crisis, warning that the continuation of violence and humanitarian disaster in the region could lead to instability spreading to other areas, including Israel.

Lavrov, meanwhile, highlighted Turkey’s mediating role in the Ukraine war and said Moscow might seek Ankara’s cooperation for a new round of negotiations with Kyiv. He described Istanbul as a symbol of the two countries’ shared understanding in reducing tensions, adding that Turkey and Russia contribute to international efforts to restore stability in sensitive regions such as the Middle East and North Africa.
The Russian Foreign Minister also expressed support for President Vladimir Putin’s recent statements appreciating Turkey’s efforts in facilitating dialogue with Ukraine. Lavrov noted that the two countries would continue their cooperation within the framework of agreements reached at the leadership level.
The meeting took place as both sides stressed the need to strengthen bilateral and multilateral dialogue to manage regional crises. A joint press conference was held after intensive discussions between the ministers, though no details were provided regarding future operational plans.
