Turkish Ministry of Commerce Seizes ₺26 Billion Worth of Smuggled Goods in 5 Months
The Turkish Ministry of Commerce announced that in the first five months of this year, during 3,081 anti-smuggling operations, it confiscated smuggled goods and narcotics worth ₺26 billion 449 million. This figure represents a 95% increase compared to the same period last year.
In May alone, the value of seized smuggled goods reached ₺9 billion 903 million, marking a 140% surge from the previous year and ranking among the highest monthly figures on record. The operations led to the seizure of:
3.8 tons of narcotics
4.8 million textile products
2.1 million miscellaneous items
182 luxury vehicles
From January to May, Turkish authorities successfully intercepted:
15.2 tons of drugs
79.4 million tobacco products, alcoholic beverages, and related items
33.3 million textile goods
20 million miscellaneous goods
The Ministry of Commerce emphasized that it is conducting anti-smuggling operations more precisely and extensively by leveraging advanced technologies and analytical methods. It reaffirmed its commitment to strictly combat all forms of smuggling that harm the national economy, create unfair competition, and threaten public health.
