15-Year Gas Agreement Between Turkey and Azerbaijan
Turkey’s Minister of Energy and Natural Resources, Alparslan Bayraktar, announced that the country has signed a new agreement with the Republic of Azerbaijan to supply 33 billion cubic meters of natural gas. According to the contract, gas deliveries will begin in 2029 and continue for 15 years.
According to Turkey’s Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources, the agreement concerns Azerbaijan’s Absheron gas field, which produces 2.25 billion cubic meters of gas annually. Over the duration of the contract, total exports from this field will reach 33 billion cubic meters.
Bayraktar, speaking to the television channel Kanal 7, emphasized that the final negotiations were completed on Friday and that the official signatures will be finalized soon.
He added: “This agreement provides Turkey with a cost-effective and long-term source of natural gas, with imports continuing into the 2040s.”
The Minister further explained that the gas produced at the Absheron field will be transported to Turkey via pipeline through the Caspian Sea.
