Erdoğan: Ankara Ready to Play a Role in Ending the Russia-Ukraine War
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, speaking at the International Conference on Peace and Trust held in Ashgabat, the capital of Turkmenistan, declared that Ankara is prepared to play a role in bringing the Russia-Ukraine war to an end.
Emphasizing the close relations between Turkey and Turkmenistan, Erdoğan said: “Since Turkmenistan’s independence, the country has achieved significant economic and humanitarian successes, and we take pride in each of these accomplishments. Turkey and Turkmenistan are two brotherly nations bound together by exceptional ties and a shared history.”
He added: “Turks and Turkmens are two brotherly peoples who share common roots and beliefs. Turkey was the first country to recognize Turkmenistan’s independence and among the earliest supporters of its status of ‘permanent neutrality.’”
Referring to ongoing diplomatic efforts to end the war in Ukraine, Erdoğan stated: “Turkey is ready to help end the Russia-Ukraine war through the Istanbul process and supports other diplomatic initiatives aimed at achieving a tangible ceasefire and peace.”
The Turkish President also underlined Ankara’s commitment to regional peace and stability, saying: “Turkey, with a sense of responsibility derived from its history, geography, and civilization, is striving for the dominance of peace and dialogue.”
In another part of his remarks, Erdoğan addressed the Palestinian issue, noting: “The participation and role of Palestinians in all stages of the peace process are fundamental and vital. The ultimate goal is the realization of a two-state solution.”
Finally, Erdoğan referred to the situation in Gaza, stating: “The ceasefire in Gaza remains fragile due to Israel’s continuous violations. Therefore, firm and uninterrupted support from the international community is essential.”
