Erdoğan: Efforts for Peace and Disarming Terrorists
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, speaking to journalists on his return flight from Tirana, Albania, after attending the 6th European Political Community Summit, stated, “We are holding consultations with neighboring countries on how to disarm terrorists outside Turkey’s borders.”
Referring to the Istanbul peace talks between Russian and Ukrainian delegations, Erdoğan said, “We will make every effort to keep dialogue channels between Russia and Ukraine open and to continue negotiations.”
In another part of his remarks, the Turkish president emphasized that Ankara’s primary expectation from Washington is the removal of all barriers in line with the spirit of the Turkey-U.S. strategic partnership, adding, “Any positive step in this regard is valuable.”
He continued, “There should be no restrictions or obstacles in defense cooperation between Turkey and the U.S., two major NATO allies.”
Stressing that Turkey-U.S. collaboration is vital for regional and global stability, Erdoğan stated, “We are striving to create a constructive and results-oriented platform for dialogue.”
Responding to journalists’ questions about recent tensions between India and Pakistan, Erdoğan underlined, “If requested by Pakistan and India, we will naturally do our part. We want peace and do not wish to see tension between these two neighboring countries.”
Regarding Israel’s ongoing attacks on the Gaza Strip, the Turkish president said, “We will exert every effort to increase pressure on the Netanyahu government.”
Erdoğan further stressed, “Not a single day should be wasted on Gaza. Israel’s attacks on the Gaza Strip must stop.”
