Erdoğan Stresses Ceasefire and Reconstruction of Gaza at Peace Summit
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan arrived in Egypt to attend the “Sharm el-Sheikh Peace Summit” and held talks with several world leaders on the sidelines of the meeting.
The aircraft carrying the Turkish president landed at Sharm el-Sheikh International Airport, after which he and his delegation proceeded to the International Exhibition Center, the venue of the summit. At the entrance, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi welcomed Erdoğan, and the two leaders held a brief conversation.
Prior to the official opening of the summit, Erdoğan held bilateral meetings with a number of leaders. In his meeting with Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Vice President and Deputy Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates, he emphasized the expansion of political, trade, investment, and defense industry cooperation. He also called for an immediate end to the genocide in Gaza, the full implementation of the ceasefire agreement, the uninterrupted delivery of humanitarian aid, and the launch of reconstruction efforts.
The Turkish president then met with Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Emir of Qatar. This meeting was held behind closed doors without media presence.
Erdoğan also held talks with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer. The discussions covered bilateral relations as well as regional and global issues. Erdoğan underlined the importance of expanding cooperation in all fields, particularly the defense industry, and reiterated that Turkey is working to halt the attacks in Gaza, achieve a ceasefire, and ensure the continuous flow of humanitarian aid.
Later, Erdoğan met with French President Emmanuel Macron. The two leaders discussed bilateral relations and the situation in Gaza. Erdoğan stressed the importance of maintaining the ceasefire and advancing a two-state solution as the basis for lasting peace.
On the sidelines of the summit, Erdoğan also met with Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni. This meeting was likewise held without media coverage.
