Fidan: Emphasis on Islamic Solidarity in Support of Palestine
Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, speaking at the extraordinary meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), said: “What the people of Palestine need most today is our collective presence and action on the ground.”
In the opening ceremony of this meeting, held in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, Fidan stressed that support for the just cause of the Palestinian people has been provided so far, but noted: “This support alone is not enough; what is necessary is coordinated and joint action by all member states of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation.”
He described the broad participation and high-level representation of member state delegations as a clear sign of unity and solidarity among the members.
The Turkish Foreign Minister, pointing out that the process of recognizing the State of Palestine has reached an irreversible stage, added: “This achievement is also not enough, and strong, coordinated political and diplomatic pressure must be exerted on Israel in order to achieve a lasting solution.”
He also recalled the importance of the upcoming United Nations General Assembly session, emphasizing: “At this juncture, the conscience of the Islamic Ummah and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation must appear on the global stage with a loud and united voice.”
