Land Transportation Between Turkey and Syria
Abdulkadir Uraloğlu, Turkey’s Minister of Transport and Infrastructure, announced in an interview with Anadolu Agency on the sidelines of the Global Transport Corridors Forum at the Istanbul Congress Center that a memorandum of understanding (MoU) has been signed with Syria for cooperation in international road transport.
Uraloğlu stated: “Under the International Land Transport Agreement signed between Turkey and Syria in 2004, commercial transportation between the two countries will resume. Thus, the transfer of goods at border gates will end, and cargo shipments from Turkey to Syria and from Syria to Turkey will be carried out directly.”
Noting that Turkish and Syrian delegations also agreed to start transit transportation, he said: “This will provide direct land access from Turkey to Jordan, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, and the Gulf countries.”
The Turkish Minister of Transport and Infrastructure added: “Goods will reach Gulf countries faster via a shorter route through Syria.”
