Nationwide Operation by Turkish Gendarmerie Against Human Traffickers and Illegal Migrants
The Turkish Gendarmerie, in a series of operations across the country over the past two weeks, detained 2,386 illegal migrants and 69 human traffickers.
According to security sources, these operations were carried out in coordination with the Department for Combating Migrant Smuggling and Human Trafficking of the Gendarmerie General Command. During the operations, 69 organizers were identified and taken into custody; 47 of them were arrested by court order, while judicial control measures were imposed on 22 others.
In addition, 89 vehicles and 6 boats used by the traffickers were seized. The illegal migrants were handed over to provincial directorates of migration and placed under legal procedures for deportation from the country.
