Turkey: Annexation of the West Bank is Illegal
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkey, condemning the Israeli Knesset’s resolution on the annexation of the West Bank, declared the move contrary to international law and devoid of any legal validity.
In the ministry’s statement it was said: “The decision of the Israeli Parliament to annex the occupied territories of the West Bank is provocative, illegal, and invalid. At a time when efforts to establish peace in Gaza are ongoing, such a step gravely endangers the fragile security and stability of the region. This decision constitutes a blatant violation of international law and, in our view, carries no legal legitimacy whatsoever.”
The Turkish Foreign Ministry stressed that East Jerusalem and the West Bank, under international law, are territories belonging to Palestine, and that the international community must not allow Israel to alter realities on the ground through unilateral actions.
The statement concluded: “Turkey will continue to support the legitimate and inalienable rights of the Palestinian people and will persist in its efforts to establish an independent State of Palestine within the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.”
