Extension of Turkey’s Mission in Syria, Iraq, and Lebanon
The spokesperson of Turkey’s Ministry of National Defense announced the extension of the Turkish Armed Forces’ mission in Syria, Iraq, and Lebanon for new terms.
Rear Admiral Zeki Aktürk, spokesperson of the Ministry of National Defense, stated at his weekly press briefing on Thursday that the presence of the Turkish Armed Forces in Syria and Iraq has been extended for another three years, and within the framework of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL), for another two years.
Referring to the approval of the bill extending the mission of the Turkish Armed Forces in several regional countries by the Grand National Assembly of Turkey, he explained: “According to this decision, the mission of Turkish forces in Iraq and Syria will continue for three years starting from October 30, 2025, and the mission within the framework of UNIFIL will continue for two more years starting from October 31, 2025.”
Aktürk emphasized that in the coming period, the Turkish Armed Forces will continue, within the framework of international law, to counter any threats and actions against the territorial integrity, stability, and security of Iraq and Syria, as well as threats from these regions directed at Turkey’s national security.
He further recalled that since 2006, the Turkish Armed Forces have been operating within the framework of the United Nations peacekeeping forces for the stability and security of Lebanon, and that the Turkish military will continue to support the strengthening of the capacity and capabilities of the Lebanese Army.
