Turkey Condemns Israel’s Attack on UNRWA Headquarters
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkey issued a statement strongly condemning the raid and seizure by Israeli forces of the headquarters of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) in East Jerusalem.
The statement emphasized that Israel’s actions against a United Nations building enjoying diplomatic immunity constitute a clear violation of international law.
It further recalled that the advisory opinion of the International Court of Justice, dated 22 October 2025, explicitly obliges Israel, as the occupying power, not to obstruct UNRWA’s activities but rather to facilitate them.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkey stressed that the continuation of UNRWA’s operations is vital, noting that the agency provides indispensable services to Palestinian refugees and plays a fundamental role in safeguarding their right of return to their homeland. The statement underlined that sustaining these activities is essential for efforts toward achieving lasting peace.
The statement concluded by calling on the international community to take deterrent measures against Israel’s actions, which are contrary to international law, and to increase support for UNRWA.
It is noteworthy that the Israeli army raided UNRWA’s headquarters in East Jerusalem yesterday.
