Turkey to Host Peace Talks Between Russia and Ukraine
A new development has emerged in the peace process between Russia and Ukraine, with Turkey announcing its readiness to host a new round of negotiations between the two countries. This proposal has been met with approval from Russian, Ukrainian, and even American officials.
Russian President Vladimir Putin stated in remarks following Victory Day celebrations in Moscow that he is ready to meet with Ukrainian officials in Istanbul on May 15 without any preconditions. Putin recalled that the 2022 talks had been left incomplete and expressed that a new opportunity for dialogue has now emerged.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced in a statement that his country is prepared to participate in these negotiations. Zelenskyy emphasized Ukraine’s pursuit of a peaceful solution to end the war and expressed appreciation for Turkey’s role as host of these talks.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan welcomed this proposal during a phone call with Putin, stating that Turkey would mobilize all necessary resources to ensure the success of the negotiations. Turkey had previously hosted talks between the two countries in 2022.
According to diplomatic sources, Turkey’s strategic geographic location and balanced relations with both conflicting parties make it a suitable host for these talks. Ankara has played an active mediating role in regional crises in recent years and possesses the necessary infrastructure for such negotiations.

In an unexpected development, former U.S. President Donald Trump also expressed support for this initiative, describing it as a positive step toward ending the war. Analysts suggest that successful negotiations could mark a turning point in the Ukraine crisis.

Further details about the format of the talks and the level of representation have not yet been disclosed. However, it appears all parties recognize the necessity of dialogue to reduce tensions.
