Ekrem İmamoğlu’s Reaction to PKK’s Dissolution Decision
Ekrem İmamoğlu, the Mayor of Istanbul and the presidential candidate of the Republican People’s Party (CHP), reacted to the decision of PKK’s dissolution, stating that such a major process must involve public participation, expert opinions, and democratic principles. He stressed that the process should not be conducted behind closed doors without public support.
İmamoğlu pointed out the devastating effects of four decades of conflict, stating that the end of this period, which has claimed the lives of thousands of Turkish and Kurdish citizens and drained the country’s resources, is a positive development for Turkey. He also emphasized the necessity of legal, social, and economic reforms to ensure equal rights for all citizens.
He proposed that to manage this process effectively, a general discussion should be held in the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM), and a commission comprising representatives from all political parties should be formed to examine the issue. İmamoğlu highlighted the importance of transparency, public involvement, and the preservation of democratic principles throughout the process.
