Turkey to Host Three Major International Summits in 2026
Turkey will host three significant international events in 2026:
- North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) Summit
- United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP 31)
- Summit of the Organization of Turkic States
Turkey’s Active Role in Global Diplomacy
In recent years, Ankara has played a prominent role in both regional and global diplomacy. Through mediation efforts in crises such as the Russia–Ukraine war, human-centered diplomatic initiatives, and effective multilateral cooperation mechanisms, Turkey has consolidated its position as an active player in international politics.
Details of the Summits
- COP 31: This conference will be held in Istanbul and Antalya. Turkey will be responsible for setting the agenda of the summit. Last year, COP 30 was hosted by Brazil under the theme of “Green Industrialization.” The upcoming conference is expected to bring together leaders from 196 countries.
- NATO Summit: Scheduled for July in Ankara. The most recent NATO leaders’ summit took place in June this year in The Hague, Netherlands, focusing on strengthening the defense capabilities of member states.
- Organization of Turkic States Summit: The 13th summit of this organization will be hosted by Turkey in 2026. The 12th summit was held last October in Gabala, Azerbaijan, under the theme of “Regional Peace and Security.”
The Importance of Turkey’s Hosting Role
Hosting these three international summits will strengthen Turkey’s position among the countries shaping global diplomacy. By welcoming these high-level meetings, Ankara aims to reinforce its role as one of the key actors in international politics and cooperation.
