Turkey’s Representative at the UN Speaks Out Against Israel’s Move in Somaliland
Ahmet Yıldız, Turkey’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, strongly criticized Israel’s decision to unilaterally recognize Somaliland during an emergency meeting of the Security Council.
He described the move as “another example of the Netanyahu government’s unlawful actions aimed at creating instability,” stressing that Turkey considers this decision a blatant violation of international law and the UN Charter, and completely rejects it.
Yıldız noted that the principles of the international order have once again been clearly called into question, stating: “Such behavior can neither be normalized nor ignored or justified.”
He further warned that Israel’s action undermines Somalia’s sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity, posing a serious threat to international peace and security. According to him, this decision carries the risk of division and instability in the Horn of Africa and the Red Sea.
