Turkish Military Cargo Plane Crashes on Georgia–Azerbaijan Border
The Turkish Ministry of National Defense announced that a C130 military cargo plane, flying from the Republic of Azerbaijan to Turkey, has crashed on the Georgia–Azerbaijan border. According to the ministry, a large-scale search and rescue operation has been launched in cooperation with officials from both countries.
In the official statement published on the ministry’s social media account, it was noted: “Our C130 military cargo plane, which was flying from Azerbaijan to Turkey, has crashed on the Georgia–Azerbaijan border, and joint efforts to locate the wreckage are ongoing.”
At the same time, Turkish Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya held a phone conversation with Georgian Interior Minister Geka Guladze following the incident. Yerlikaya emphasized in his social media post that he was “deeply saddened” by the news of the crash and added: “Search and rescue operations are still underway. The Georgian Interior Minister, who was present at the crash site, conveyed his condolences to the people of Turkey during our conversation.”
In this context, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, speaking at the Urban Planning Summit in Istanbul, also expressed his deep sorrow over the incident: “Today, with great sadness, we learned that our C130 military aircraft, flying from the Republic of Azerbaijan to Turkey, has crashed on the Georgia–Azerbaijan border.” Erdoğan added: “Our efforts to locate the wreckage of the plane continue in coordination with officials from neighboring countries. May God bless our martyrs.”
