Ukrainian Ambassador to Turkey: No Specific Date Set for Erdoğan’s Visit to Kyiv
Nariman Jalal, Ukraine’s Ambassador to Turkey, announced that no specific date has been set for Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s potential visit to Ukraine. Jalal denied reports in some Turkish media regarding the timing of the visit, emphasizing that these reports were published without citing official sources.
Jalal added that officials from both countries are in discussions to plan the visit but have not yet reached a final agreement. According to him, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy officially invited Erdoğan to Kyiv during their meeting in Ankara in May.
One of the key topics of discussion during the potential visit will be the free trade agreement between the two countries, negotiations for which began in 2011 and were signed in February 2022. Turkey ratified and published the agreement in its Official Gazette in October 2024, while Ukraine is still awaiting final approval from its parliament.
The ambassador had previously stated in an interview that this agreement could strengthen economic ties between the two countries, though it might pose challenges for some industrial sectors. He clarified that the final decision on the matter would be a political one.
