Fidan: The World Must Respond to Israel’s Attempts to Sabotage the Ceasefire
Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, in a joint press conference with Syrian Foreign Minister Asad Hasan Shiban in Ankara on Thursday, stated that the world should be prepared to respond to any potential attempts by Israel to sabotage the ceasefire between the United States and Iran.
The Turkish Foreign Minister also emphasized the importance of taking rational steps in response to Israel’s known actions aimed at undermining the negotiation process.
Fidan added, “In particular, the world’s public opinion must be prepared and able to respond to any potential acts of sabotage by Israel.”
He continued, “We hope to create a new architecture for security and peace in the region, including the normalization of relations between Iran and the Gulf countries on a more solid foundation.”
“We once again emphasize that we in Turkey are ready to play an active role in this process and provide all necessary support.”
Fidan stated that “Israel is currently expanding its genocide in Gaza to include Lebanon.”
He noted that “Israel’s attacks in Lebanon, which target children and civilians indiscriminately, have already claimed the lives of hundreds before the ceasefire ink has even dried and plunged the region into a deeper humanitarian crisis.”
Fidan stressed that ending Israel’s occupation of Lebanon and protecting the civilian population has become an urgent priority.
He added, “I want to reiterate a point that is vitally important for the peace and stability of our entire region and global stability: the Netanyahu government should not be allowed to undermine the ceasefire and negotiations that have been achieved through intensive efforts in the region.”
Fidan said that the plans announced within the framework of the temporary ceasefire between the United States and Iran include complex issues such as regional security and other difficult matters.
He continued, “Two weeks may not be enough. If both sides agree, the ceasefire can be extended for a longer period and negotiations can resume. This is what we hope for and are working towards: that these negotiations start and end with good faith.”
Fidan, expressing satisfaction with the ceasefire between Tehran and Washington, emphasized that “the world and the region need this. Iran and the United States have the capacity to achieve it, and regional countries are ready to provide all kinds of constructive support.”
