Turkey: We are not discussing the establishment of a buffer zone on the border with Iran
The Turkish Presidency’s Directorate of Communications stated, “We have no information on this matter.” These remarks came in response to claims by some media outlets that Ankara was considering the option of establishing a buffer zone in the event of severe instability in Iran and the risk of escalating tensions or increased refugee influx.
The spokesperson for the Turkish Presidency’s Directorate of Communications denied these rumors, emphasized the country’s position, and said, “We hope stability is achieved in the neighboring country.” Turkey has underlined, at the highest levels, its commitment to regional stability and the principle of non-interference, and is pursuing mediation efforts in this direction.
