Ekrem İmamoğlu stated regarding the agricultural frost disaster that all resources must be mobilized
Imamoğlu stated in a message published on his social media account that the assessment of damages and payments for insured products must be carried out without delay. For products and producers that are not covered, the Ministry of Agriculture and all relevant ministries, along with the Agricultural Bank and agricultural credit cooperatives, must mobilize all their resources.
The severe cold and snowfall that have affected the entire country have caused significant damage to agricultural products. The provinces of Bursa, Düzce, Rize, Malatya, and many other regions are facing an agricultural frost disaster.
Ekrem İmamoğlu, the detained mayor of Istanbul and the presidential candidate of the Republican People’s Party (CHP), issued a statement on his social media account regarding the agricultural frost disaster that has occurred.
The text of İmamoğlu’s statement is as follows:
The agricultural frost disaster, which has affected almost all agricultural regions of our country from east to west and from north to south, has caused extensive damage to farmland and orchards, particularly in the areas of fruit and vegetables.
The deprivation of farmers who have borne all production costs from the income of their products creates a major problem for producers and the continuity of production. Moreover, our country, which possesses fertile and historically significant agricultural lands, has encountered this disaster due to misguided policies in recent years. In a situation where it ranks among the top three countries in the world in terms of food inflation, this catastrophe will lead to a severe decline in production and a further increase in prices. To mitigate these losses and ensure the continuity of production, effective measures must be implemented immediately.
In this regard, the assessment of damages and payments for insured products must be carried out without delay. For products and producers that are not covered, the Ministry of Agriculture and all relevant ministries, along with the Agricultural Bank and agricultural credit cooperatives, must mobilize all their resources.
My thoughts and heart are with the brothers and sisters who strive to live in villages and cities with their limited incomes.
