Erdoğan: A New Era of Tank Technology with Altay
The mass production line of the Altay tank was inaugurated today in a ceremony attended by President of Türkiye Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, and the first unit of this tank was delivered to the country’s armed forces.
The “Altay” tank, developed as the main battle tank of the Turkish Armed Forces, is equipped with an active protection system, advanced armor, and fire control and vehicle control systems. In the Altay T1 model, additional measures have been taken to delay explosions, and the observation section of the turret has been enhanced. A hybrid defense system will also be responsible for protecting the crew. Production of the Altay T2 model with new features will continue in the future.
In his speech at the ceremony, President Erdoğan said: “With the Altay tank, we will open the doors to a new era of tank technology.” He emphasized that the progress of the country’s defense industry continues with the production of aerial, land, and naval weapons using modern technology, adding that Türkiye is no longer merely a follower but a pioneer.
Erdoğan added: “In the 63,000-square-meter mass production line, 8 Altay tanks and 10 Altuğ armored vehicles, known as the fortress of the battlefield, will be produced every month.” He also announced that the first series of Altay tanks, which successfully completed 35,000 kilometers of testing and 3,700 firing trials, will be delivered to the heroic army.
The President of Türkiye noted: “Over the past 23 years, by following a challenging path, we have succeeded in establishing a defense industry that has brought satisfaction to some and concern to others.”
