Turkey requests extension of gas import deal with Iran
Turkey’s Energy Minister stated that the current contract between Tehran and Ankara expires at the end of this year (2026) and announced that his country wishes to continue importing natural gas from Iran.
Alparslan Bayraktar, speaking to reporters on the sidelines of the fifth Antalya Diplomatic Forum, said Turkey desires the flow of gas imports from Iran to continue uninterrupted, and that negotiations for the extension of the contract are underway.
Bayraktar, highlighting the importance of diversifying energy sources to ensure fuel supply security, noted that the current situation in the Strait of Hormuz once again demonstrates how vital energy source diversification is for the security of any country.
The fifth Antalya Diplomatic Forum is being held in the city of Antalya in western Turkey. The motto of this year’s forum is “Navigating Uncertainties in Shaping the Future.”
