Fire Contained in Çanakkale, Turkey
In Çanakkale province, a fire broke out yesterday evening in the forests between the villages of Tayfur and Cumalı in the Gelibolu district. Strong winds caused the flames to spread rapidly toward the forested areas of the Eceabat district. Firefighting teams, consisting of 12 planes, 18 helicopters, 343 ground vehicles, and approximately 1,300 personnel, worked from both the air and the ground to control the blaze.
As a precaution, residents of seven villages—Beşyol, Karainebeyli, Ilgardere, Yolağzı, Kumköy, Büyükanafartalar, and Küçükanafartalar—were evacuated and relocated to safe areas. Authorities confirmed that historical monuments and martyr cemeteries remained unharmed at this stage.
The governor of Çanakkale stated that firefighting efforts continued throughout the night, and with daylight, water-dropping helicopters and planes resumed operations. He noted that today’s weather conditions—reduced wind speed and increased humidity—made fire containment easier compared to the previous day.
Meanwhile, Turkey’s Minister of Agriculture and Forestry urged the public to avoid lighting fires outdoors or engaging in any activities that could pose a fire risk under current conditions.
Adana: A forest fire broke out in the Üçtepe Mahallesi neighborhood of İmamoğlu district. Forestry and firefighting teams, along with helicopters and specialized fire trucks, managed to bring the fire under control with timely intervention.
Sinop: A wildfire in the Belören village area of Türkmenlioğlu district, Gerze, was extinguished by forestry and firefighting teams. Cooling operations were completed. Approximately 1,400 square meters of vegetation were destroyed in the incident.
Kocaeli: The forest fire in the Suludere area of Karamürsel district, which had started the previous day, was fully extinguished through the coordinated efforts of forestry teams, firefighters, the Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD), search and rescue teams, and aerial support. The incident led to the evacuation of three neighborhoods: Safiye, Suludere, and Akçat.
Balıkesir: A fire in the grassland and shrub area of Gaziosmanpaşa Mahallesi was completely contained after about two hours of intervention by forestry and firefighting teams.
