Israel Approves Plan to Occupy Gaza City; Strong Condemnation from Turkey and Humanitarian Crisis in the Region
Israel’s Security Cabinet, upon the proposal of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, approved a plan to occupy Gaza City in the northern Gaza Strip. According to this plan, Israel intends to evacuate all civilians from Gaza City by October 7 and relocate them to refugee camps in central areas. Following this, a military operation will begin to target Hamas members. Israeli sources have emphasized that this operation will only include Gaza City and will not expand to other areas.
Meanwhile, Turkey strongly condemned this decision, calling it a “new step in Israel’s expansionist and genocidal policies.” In a statement, the Turkish Foreign Ministry declared that this move would worsen the humanitarian crisis and threaten international peace. Ankara called on the international community to take action to halt this plan and urged the UN Security Council to adopt a binding resolution.
According to local sources, around one million Palestinians in northern Gaza face the threat of forced displacement and may have to move to central areas already suffering from severe shortages of resources. The UN has repeatedly warned that there is “no safe zone” in Gaza, and civilians continue to be exposed to Israeli airstrikes.
Some reports suggest that Israel may later expand its operations to refugee camps in central areas. This comes as Netanyahu previously stated that Israel seeks “complete control over Gaza.”
