Methane Gas Claims Lives of 8 Turkish Soldiers
Following a tragic incident in the Operation Claw-Lock zone in northern Iraq, the number of Turkish Armed Forces martyrs rose to eight. The incident occurred during a search operation in a cave used by terrorist group members, where soldiers were exposed to methane gas.
According to a statement from Türkiye’s Ministry of National Defense (MSB), the accident took place on July 6, 2025, at Hill 852. The troops were searching for the remains of Lieutenant Nuri Melih Bozkurt, one of the martyrs from 2022, when they succumbed to methane gas poisoning.
After the initial poisoning of five soldiers, three more troops lost their lives, bringing the total number of martyrs to eight. The Ministry of National Defense stated in a release:
“During this search operation, three more heroic comrades were martyred due to methane gas, increasing the total number of martyrs to eight. We pray to Allah for mercy upon these beloved martyrs and extend our condolences to their grieving families, the Turkish Armed Forces, and our noble nation.”
This incident once again highlighted the dangers of military operations in complex environments, sparking deep sorrow among the Turkish people and the armed forces.
