Öcalan Reveals Foreign Actors’ Role in Continuing Conflicts
Following the PKK’s announcement of disbandment and disarmament as part of the “Terror-Free Turkey” project, reports have emerged about certain foreign powers attempting to disrupt this process. According to meeting minutes from recent discussions between delegations of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (DEM) and Abdullah Öcalan in İmralı Prison, the imprisoned PKK leader pointed to the presence of “saboteur elements” in this process.
Sources close to the PKK claim that some foreign forces immediately contacted the group’s command in Qandil after the disarmament declaration, demanding a halt to the process. These sources allege that these foreign actors tried to persuade the PKK to continue the conflict by using statements such as, “Do not lay down your weapons” and “Why don’t you demand federalism in Rojava?” Öcalan reportedly pointed to the possible involvement of the U.S. and Israel in these efforts.
In a separate development, Syrian news sources reported a missile attack by PKK/YPG-affiliated forces on rural areas south of Manbij in northeastern Aleppo. According to Syria’s official news agency (SANA), yesterday’s attack targeted the village of “Al-Kiyariyah” and its surroundings, leaving four soldiers and three civilians wounded. The Syrian army claimed to have retaliated against the attackers’ positions.
