Transfer of 21 Iranian Prisoners from Turkey to Iranian Authorities at Bazargan Border
Following continuous efforts by the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Ankara, and in coordination with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Justice, 21 Iranian citizens sentenced to imprisonment in Turkish prisons were handed over today to Iranian authorities at the Bazargan border crossing.
Mohammad Hassan Habibollahzadeh, Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran to Turkey, announced: “This transfer was carried out within the framework of the bilateral agreement on the exchange of convicted persons between Iran and Turkey. The transferred prisoners will serve the remainder of their sentences in domestic prisons.”
He added that the process of transferring eligible Iranian convicts from Turkish prisons is ongoing, stating: “In February of last year, 27 Iranian prisoners were also repatriated from Turkey. This initiative aims to improve the conditions of prisoners and uphold the rights of Iranian citizens abroad.”
The Iranian Ambassador in Ankara expressed appreciation for the constructive cooperation of Turkish officials in implementing the agreement. He also emphasized the consular support provided by the Embassy and Consulates of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Turkey to Iranian inmates, and voiced hope that the transfer of eligible prisoners to Iran will continue through mutual coordination and collaboration.
