Turkey denies claims of transferring criminals from Europe
The Directorate of Communications’ Center for Combating Disinformation announced that reports alleging “Afghan, Iraqi, and Syrian criminals being flown from Europe to Turkey” are completely baseless.
In a statement released on Turkey’s national platform “NSosyal,” the Center emphasized: Claims circulated by certain media outlets and social media accounts suggesting that third-country nationals are being sent to Turkey, either collectively or individually, are not true.
Turkey has no precedent of accepting criminals or individuals without legal residence from other countries. The country only handles matters concerning its own citizens individually, within the framework of international law and after the completion of necessary judicial procedures.
The statement further noted that a criminal complaint regarding the dissemination of this false information has been filed with the Office of the Chief Public Prosecutor under Article 217/A of the Turkish Penal Code No. 5237, for the offense of “publicly spreading misleading information.”
