Istanbul’s new export record: 79.3 billion dollars
Istanbul has once again reinforced its position as the driving force of Turkey’s economy. In the first 10 months of this year, the city achieved exports worth 79.3 billion dollars to 232 countries worldwide, setting a new record. According to data from the Turkish Exporters Assembly, this figure represents a 4 percent increase compared to the same period last year, when exports stood at 76.2 billion dollars.
The chemical industry had the largest share in this success, topping the list with exports valued at 15 billion dollars. It was followed by ready-to-wear and apparel at 9.3 billion dollars, electrical and electronic equipment at 7.5 billion dollars, the automotive industry at 7.2 billion dollars, and steel products at 6.1 billion dollars.
Accounting for 40 percent of Turkey’s total exports, Istanbul plays an unparalleled role in the country’s economic growth. Product diversification and expansion of export markets, particularly in the European Union and the Middle East, have been key factors behind this achievement.
The outlook for the future is also promising. It is projected that Istanbul’s exports will surpass 95 billion dollars by the end of this year. This figure highlights the city’s strong production capacity and progress in digital transformation across its industries. The steady growth will further strengthen Turkey’s position as one of the emerging economic powers.
