Development of Trade with Iran in the Post War Period; The Focus Announced by Turkey’s Minister of Economy
Turkey’s Minister of Economy announced that the border infrastructure of his country will be improved to accelerate trade with the Islamic Republic of Iran, as they believe they will develop trade with Iran significantly in the post-war period.
Ömer Bolat, at the opening ceremony of the Gürbulak Customs Gate in Turkey, added that regarding Iran, they will not limit themselves to road crossings and will also strengthen rail crossings and air traffic.
He described the Gürbulak Customs Gate as the most important crossing between his country and Iran and stated that Ağrı Province and the Gürbulak Crossing are Europe’s gateway to Asia, and they will by no means remain indifferent to this enormous capacity.
Turkey’s Minister of Economy, noting that the revival of land crossings in his country began in 2003, pointed out that the Gürbulak Crossing is the nineteenth crossing to be revived in this period in order to strengthen economic capacities with neighboring countries.
Stating that Turkey’s foreign trade volume has reached 800 billion dollars, he said that this figure covers approximately 50 percent of Turkey’s economy, indicating the high importance of this sector.
Bolat continued that they are striving to increase Turkey’s foreign trade to one trillion dollars by 2030.
Expressing gratitude for the solidarity of Iranian officials in developing trade, he added that the efforts of the Governor of West Azerbaijan for expanding trade exchanges and the constructive connection between the two countries are highly commendable, and they thank him.
Reza Rahmani, the Governor of West Azerbaijan, along with a delegation, attended the opening ceremony of the Gürbulak Border Crossing in Turkey and held several meetings with Turkish counterparts on this matter.
